| Cunard and White Star merge
The North Atlantic Shipping Bill was passed by Parliament, on the 28th of March receiving Royal Assent, six weeks later assets of the two shipping companies were merged into a new company.
Cunard-White Star Ltd was registered on May 10th.
The White Star Line now a shadow of its former self set about repairing the financial position it had fallen into that made the misfortune of the Titanic disaster seem pale by comparison.
If the White Star management thought the tragedy would be allowed to be forgotten, they were in for a big disappointment. Within the first five years of the new company forming, film-makers were beginning to consider once again the dramatic potential that the Titanic tragedy offered. Preventing further productions from reaching the screen would lead to a diplomatic dispute across the already troubled waters of the North Atlantic. |
