| Oceanic II Mutiny
Oceanic II had a mutiny on board resulting in the convictions of 35 coal stokers upset with the commanding officers over working conditions. White Star Line ship’s carried firearms on board locked up and in the control of ships Master-at-Arms. They were intended for use in the event of piracy, mutiny or uncontrollable misconduct.
The stokers were later jailed for their part in the incident.
The Oceanic was later commissioned as an armed merchant cruiser due to her impressive speed.
In 1914 due to poor navigation, she ran aground in the Shetlands. She remained there until she disappeared from view during a fierce storm in September of that year.
